About this book
The Perth-Mandurah metropolitan area now extends over 200km, from Dawesville in the south to Two Rocks in the north. This is a longer distance than the Cape to Cape walk between Capes Leeuwin and Naturaliste.
Most of the Perth-Mandurah coast is developed with foreshore reserves separating the houses from the beach, and most of these reserves now have formal paths that run parallel to the coast. Some are bitumen/concrete and well used by walkers, runners and cyclists etc. Other are more remote and are either sand or crushed limestone.
These paths and tracks offer a range of experiences from the busy and highly developed to the quiet, almost wilderness, with most somewhere in between.
These paths and tracks are a hidden treasure and resource and offer and variety of experiences and opportunities. It can be walked in sections of varying lengths or it can, in effect, form a single long distance walking trail which can be walked end to end over 6-12 days, depending on your level of fitness.
This book is a guide to you how to do this walk end-to-end.
For end to end walkers, because this is an urban trail, there is access to good public transport and accommodation, which makes walking this trail end to end unaided quite easy to organise, and it is possible to stay in comfortable accommodation.
This book has been 7 years in the making. In 2014 I decided to walk the whole length of the Perth- Mandurah coast and to create a resource for those wanting to do coastal walks of varying lengths and at different locations. I created a website primarily aimed at day walkers where I divided the coast into 42 short walks of 5-7km each. You can access this material here http://perthpeelcoastalwalk.com .
This book can be used as a resource for those very keen walkers who want to walk the whole length of the Perth- Mandurah coast from Jindalee in the north to Tim’s Thicket in the south, a total distance of just under 183km.
There are four versions of this book - hard copy, ePub phone version, ePub tablet version, and PDF. Click here to purchase a copy of this book.
Currency of the information
Our cities are an ever changing landscape, especially as new coastal suburbs are created and the coastal path is added to. The information in this book was checked against 2020 aerial photography, and any new paths created since I walked a section have been included in the text for that section, but the maps have not been updated.
